LEESBURG, Florida – The Adrian College softball team started day three with Fontbonne University and ended the day with Penn State Behrend. The Bulldogs dug in and cruised to two wins by scores of 5-4 and 7-6.
In game one Fontbonne would answer first with a run in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the third inning the Bulldogs would string together hits as
Peyton Russell would smack a single into centerfield to score two runs. Two batters later
Meghan Lupu would hit a single and score two more runs to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead. Fontbonne would keep themselves alive with a run in the fourth inning and two more runs in the sixth inning to tie the game up at 4.
Taylor Gerhardt would hit a sac fly to left field as
Flesia Borck would tag and score from third base to give Adrian the 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Adrian would hold Fontbonne scoreless in the top of the seventh to keep the 5-4 lead. Adrian only totaled six hits as Fontbonne had 10 hits in the game.
Karson Bagelmann would lead Adrian with two hits and a walk as
Hailey DeChalk went 1-2 with a walk. Russell and Lupu both knocked in two runs each.
Abbi Patton would get the win in the circle with three strikeouts.
In game two the bats for the Bulldogs kept them in the game as Adrian would total six errors defensively. In the first inning,
Ava Wolfe would hit a single to center field to score Gerhardt from third to give Adrian the lead in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back doubles from
Maggie Leveille and Russell would score two more runs to give Adrian a 3-1 lead through three innings. A passed ball in the fourth inning would score Borck as Gerhardt would score once again on a wild pitch to give the Bulldogs a 5-0 advantage. Penn State Behrend would answer with a two-run inning in the bottom of the fourth inning. Another double from Leveille and a double from DeChalk would score two more runs in the sixth inning. A 7-2 Bulldogs lead was not off the table as Penn State Behrend would score one run in the sixth inning and score three more runs to make it 7-6. The Bulldogs would get the final out of the game and the Bulldogs would win game number two, 7-6.
Gerhardt would go 4-5 with two triples to lead Adrian as Leveille would go 3-4 and two RBI's.
Meghan Lupu would also go 3-4 with three stolen bases.
Macee Schang would get her first win of the year as she totaled one strikeout.
Adrian will continue their Florida Trip on Thursday for two more games against Johnson & Wales University and New England College!
