HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Adrian College baseball team finished its spring break trip on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader in North Carolina. Adrian went on to sweep the weekend after defeating Greensboro on Thursday followed by a 9-2 victory over the University of Rochester on Friday before defeating Maryville College 15-5.
GAME 1: Adrian 9, Rochester 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rochester jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
- Adrian went on to respond with a five-run inning in the third to take the lead. Jakob Charles drove in a run on an RBI single before Edward Wagner drew a bases loaded walk and Joe Casale singled in a pair of runs.
- In the sixth inning, Rochester added a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 5-2 in favor of Adrian.
- With the bases loaded in the seventh, AJ Miranda smacked a grand slam to put the Bulldogs ahead 9-2 and win the game.
TOP DAWGS
- Miranda totaled four RBIs in game one while Casale totaled two.
- Jaxon Clark earned his first win of the season throwing six innings allowing one earned run on nine hits with eight strikeouts.
GAME 2: Adrian 15, Maryville 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maryville jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after a pair of first inning home runs.
- The Bulldogs bounced back in the second with an RBI single from Charles and an RBI groundout from Nic Bruder.
- In the fourth inning, Ryan Davis drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to tie the game before Wagner hit a bases clearing double to lead 6-3.
- The Bulldogs added three more in the fifth on a bases loaded hit by pitch, a passed ball, and a sacrifice fly.
- Maryville went on to earn one in the fifth and one in the six to trail Adrian, 9-5.
- In the seventh inning, Bruder singled in a run followed by another RBI single from Miranda to lead 11-5.
- The Bulldogs went on to enforce the mercy rule adding four more in the eighth on RBIs from Davis, Philip Vilardo, and Easton Rogers.
TOP DAWGS
- Landon Kozlowski earned his first win of the season in relief throwing 1.2 innings allowing no runs on one hit.
- Charles and Wagner finished with multi-hit games for Adrian.
- Ryan Davis led the team with four RBIs while Wagner totaled three.
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs will return home from their trip and host their home opener on Friday, March 15 at 1:00 PM when they take on North Central College as part of a three-day round robin tournament. Adrian will face Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, March 16 before taking on Denison University on Sunday, March 17.
