ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team hosted the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point on Saturday in the NCAA Tournament First Round. The Bulldogs went on to defeat the Pointers for the second consecutive year in the NCAA Tournament. Adrian advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals after a 4-0 victory.
In the first period, Adrian jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal from
Jaden Shields. Later in the period,
Casey Gerstein scored to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
Bradley Somers,
Mathew Rehding, and
Cameron Babiak all had first period assists.
In the second period, Adrian scored a goal ten seconds into a power play to extend the lead to 3-0. Shields and
Zachary Heintz found
Jacob Suede in front of the net leading to the goal. In the third period, the Bulldogs scored an empty net goal to lock up the 4-0 victory.
Dershahn Stewart started in goal for the Bulldogs where he finished the game with 28 saves. Stewart recorded the shutout in goal which marks the first time that UW-Stevens Point has been shutout since 2021.
The Bulldogs advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals and will face off with NCHA opponent, St. Norbert College. Due to being the higher seed, Adrian will serve as host of the Quarterfinal round on Saturday, March 16.
