ALBION, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team traveled to Albion College for an MIAA double header on Saturday afternoon. Adrian won game one 7-3 and took down the Britons 10-9 in game two.
In game one Adrian was the first to score, but not until the top of the fourth inning.
Peyton Russell doubled down the left field line to score
Maggie Leveille. Adrian tacked on another run in the top of the fifth inning off a home run from
Karson Bagelmann to lead 2-0. A two-run home run from Russell and a bases loaded walk, put the Bulldogs up 5-0 in the top of the sixth. Another bases leaded walk in the top of the seventh inning gave Adrian a 7-0 lead with a half inning to play. Albion did end up scoring three runs in the seventh, but it was not enough as Adrian won game one, 7-3!
Russell led the Bulldogs with three hits and three RBI's.
Makenzi Johnson,
Flesia Borck, and Bagelmann were the only other Bulldogs to record a hit.
Macee Schang started in the circle and got the win allowing seven hits and striking out eight.
Game two was back and forth throughout the seven innings of action. Albion led off with a one-run first inning. Adrian responds with two runs in the second inning off of a Johnson single and a Bagelmann walk with the bases leaded to lead 2-1. Albion scored two more runs in the top of the third inning, but Adrian also scored two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Russell continued her day at the plate, homering for her second time on the day to give Adrian a one-run lead. Both teams scored two runs a piece in the fourth inning.
Taylor Gerhardt doubled to center and eventually scored after stealing third and an error on the throw allowing her to walk on in. Albion had a little spark in the fifth inning where they totaled four runs and take a 9-6 lead. Adrian scored another run in the bottom of the fifth as
Genna Marasco crossed the plate for the Bulldogs. A three-run sixth inning gave Adrian a 10-9 lead with one inning to go. A sacrifice fly from
Hailey DeChalk, a
Paige Stein single, and a
Meghan Lupu single allowed the Bulldogs to comeback in the sixth. Adrian held the Britons scoreless in the seventh to win game two, 10-9.
Bagelmann, Gerhardt, Stein, and Lupu all recorded two hits each. Russell led with two RBIs as Adrian totaled four stolen bases.
Abbi Patton earned the win in the circle as she allowed nine hits and striking out six.
Adrian will host Heidelberg University on Tuesday, April 23 at 3:30 and 5:30 PM for their next double header!
