ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team hosted Heidelberg University for a non-conference double header on Monday evening. Adrian defeated Heidelberg 7-2 in game one and 10-2 in game two.
The Bulldogs jumped on Heidelberg early, scoring all seven runs in the first two innings. In the first,
Hailey DeChalk hit a double to score two runs and then
Paige Stein singled to right center to give Adrian a 3-0 advantage after the first inning. DeChalk stepped up with bases loaded in the second inning and hit a grand slam to left field to give Adrian a 7-0 lead. Adrian would be held scoreless the rest of the game, but the Student Princes added a run in the fourth and fifth innings. The Bulldogs took game one, 7-2.
DeChalk led Adrian with three hits and six RBI's as
Meghan Lupu also added three hits for the Bulldogs. Lupu and
Karson Bagelmann both recorded a stolen base.
Macee Schang went the distance to earn the win, allowing seven hits and striking out four.
In game two Adrian took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off a sacrifice fly from
Maggie Leveille to score Bagelmann from third base. The Bulldogs exploded for five runs in the fourth inning.
Flesia Borck led off with a triple to score
Makenzi Johnson. A single from Bagelmann and DeChalk put the Bulldogs up 5-0. Eventually, DeChalk scored on a wild pitch to give Adrian a 6-0 lead after four innings of action. Heidelberg scored two in the sixth inning, but Adrian scored four more runs to win the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Taylor Gerhardt with a single, Leveille with a double, Stein with a single, and a walk off single from Johnson led Adrian to a 10-2 win in six innings.'
DeChalk, Gerhardt, and Johnson all recorded three hits as Dechalk and Leveille both had a team-high two RBI's. Bagelmann totaled three stolen bases and tallied three runs as well.
Abbi Patton secured the victory for the Bulldogs allowing four hits and striking out six in the win.
Adrian will travel to Saint Mary's for another MIAA conference double header on Thursday, April 25!
