ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Women's Rugby team hosted the Adrian 7's Rugby tournament on Sunday at Docking Stadium. Numerous schools from around the area made the trek to Adrian for the one-day tournament competition including Notre Dame College, Bowling Green, Davenport, Iowa, and Michigan.
Adrian began play with matches against Bowling Green and Notre Dame College before battling their way through to the championship match.
Game 1 vs. BGSU (36-5 W)
The Bulldogs started off strong in their first match against Bowling Green. Quick hands and early communication helped Adrian cross the try line four times in the first half.

Madison Williamson,
Chris Peters, and
Pendo Miregi all added to the score sheet, with Williamson going 2/4 on conversions.
Half two started off in the same way with Miregi scoring her second. Bowling Green didn't give up however, fighting hard in the tackles and breaking off a 60 meter run. The Bulldogs cracked back immediately, with every player on the pitch touching the ball and
Alyssa Luzkow finishing the play. Miregi converted the try, sending Adrian to a 36-5 victory.
Game 2 vs. Notre Dame College (28-0 W)
Match number two resulted in a forfeit win over Notre Dame College due to injuries suffered, sending Adrian to the championship bracket.
Game 3 vs. Birds of Prey *Iowa and NDC combined* (31-10 W)
In the third game of the tournament, Adrian faced off against the Birds of Prey, a mix of Iowa University and Notre Dame College players. The Bulldogs' good form continued with Peters, Miregi, Williamson, and
Madisyn McDonald all dotted down in half one, with Williamson converting 3/4.
The BoP surged back strong after the break, breaking through the Bulldog defense twice in the second to put the score at 26-10. Miregi took that personally and torched off an 80 meter try to finish the game, 31-10.
Game 4 vs. Davenport (42-0 L)
The last match of the day was one too many, with Davenport University scoring eight tries against the Bulldogs. Williamson, McDonald, and Miregi stepped up on defense to challenge DU.
The Adrian College Women's Rugby season ended off strongly with the Bulldogs going 9-9 in 7's play against some of the best competition in the country. The Bulldogs had a +36 score margin with 93 points for and 57 points against. The team will now look forward to climbing the ranks into National Collegiate Rugby's Division 1 for the Fall 2024 season.
