BEREA, Ohio – The Adrian College baseball team are NCAA Regional Champions after defeating Catholic on a walk-off in the bottom of the ninth to win 9-8. Adrian trailed by two entering the inning where they loaded the bases which were later cleared on a double from
Nic Bruder to push the Bulldogs to the Super Regionals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Adrian got on the board in the top of the first on a 2-run homer from AJ Miranda.
- In the third inning, Miranda struck again with a double off the wall to extend the lead to 4-0. David Kedrow drove in a run on an RBI groundout.
- Catholic got on the board in the fifth with a three-run inning and later tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth.
- The Bulldogs responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Ryan Davis.
- Catholic didn't go away and took the lead after a three-run eighth inning to lead 8-6.
- Adrian loaded the bases in the ninth and saw Nic Bruder come to the plate with two outs where he ripped a double to left center and clear the bases to take home the victory.
- Adrian finished the day with 14 hits led by three from Bruder and two from Davis, Miranda, Kedrow, and Rolando Jimenez.
- Daniel Gutierrez got the start on the mound where he threw 4.1 innings allowing three runs on eight hits. Broc Shoemaker, Robert Leonard, Ben Bates, and Ambrose Horwath all pitched in relief to keep the Bulldogs in the game.
- Miranda, Davis, Kedrow, Bruder, and Jaxon Clark were named to the Regional All-Tournament Team with Bruder being named MVP.
UP NEXT
Adrian will compete in the Super Regionals next weekend against the winner of the Penn State Harrisburg Regional. The game will be played on May 24-25 at a location to be determined.
