ALBION, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team wrapped up its three-game series with Albion College on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader on the road. The Bulldogs grabbed game one of the doubleheader, 12-6, before taking game two, 11-8. The Bulldogs went on to sweep the series and move to 15-6 in MIAA play and 26-13 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Adrian took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI from David Kedrow.
- In the second inning, Nic Bruder doubled in a run to lead 2-0.
- The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third on RBI singles from Ryan Davis and Philip Vilardo, but Albion answered to make it 4-3.
- In the fourth inning, Kedrow singled in another run followed by a 2-RBI double from Easton Rogers.
- Albion answered again in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run inning to make it 7-6.
- The bats came alive for the Bulldogs in the eighth as Kedrow and Linken Hayward drove in runs on a pair of doubles while Edward Wagner hit a sacrifice fly. AJ Miranda added another run in the ninth on an RBI double.
- Bruder, Miranda, and Rolando Jimenez each finished the game with three hits.
- Daniel Gutierrez got the start on the mound where he threw 3.2 innings allowing six runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Landon Kozlowski got the win in relief after tossing 3.1 innings allowing no runs on three hits. Lincoln Lipinski pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
Game 2
- Adrian scored a run in the top of the first on an RBI groundout from Miranda which was quickly answered by Albion in the bottom of the inning.
- Jack Boike drove in a run in the second inning on an RBI groundout.
- The Bulldogs added five runs in the fourth inning on a bases loaded walk to Bruder, a bases clearing double by Jimenez, a bases loaded walk to Hayward, and an RBI single by Kedrow to lead 7-1.
- Albion answered with a four-run fifth inning to make it 7-5.
- Bruder drove in a run in the seventh inning after reaching on a fielder's choice. Albion responded with a run in the eighth to trail Adrian, 8-6.
- The Bulldogs added runs in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Bruder and a fielder's choice to Jimenez.
- Albion scored runs in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't complete the comeback allowing Adrian to sweep the weekend series.
- Bruder and Kedrow finished the game with three hits each while Jimenez led the team with four RBIs.
- Jaxon Clark got the start on the mound where he threw 6.1 innings allowing three earned runs on ten hits to earn the win.
AROUND THE CONFERENCE
The Bulldogs will await the series finale doubleheader between Kalamazoo College and Alma College scheduled for Saturday, May 4 at Alma. Alma needs to win both games tomorrow to allow for a share of the conference title and give the Bulldogs the No. 1 seed and host the MIAA Tournament next weekend.
