KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team traveled to Kalamazoo College for their final MIAA conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs won game one, 12-4, but lost game two to the Hornets, 3-0.
Adrian started off the first inning with a single from
Hailey DeChalk to score
Karson Bagelmann, going up 1-0. Adrian scored two more runs in the third inning off of a single from
Taylor Gerhardt and another single from DeChalk. Kalamazoo scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning making the score 3-1 in favor of the Bulldogs. Adrian takes a 7-1 lead in the fourth inning as DeChalk stays hot and hits a double down the line to score three of the four runs in the fourth inning. Kalamazoo would not go away as they scored three runs in the fourth to make it 7-4. A big fifth inning from the Bulldogs separated them from the Hornets. A Bagelmann walk, Gerhardt single, a
Maggie Leveille walk, a sacrifice fly from DeChalk, and a
Peyton Russell double to left center gave Adrian a 12-4 win in five innings.
DeChalk and Gerhardt both go 3-3 to lead Adrian as Baglemann scores four times. DeChalk totaled six RBI's as Macee Shcang was in the circle and only allowed two hits and struck out five in the win.
Adrian struggled in game two of the conference doubleheader. Kalamazoo would score a run in the top of the second inning and score two in the top of the seventh inning for their three runs of the game. Three runs are all the Hornets needed as the Bulldogs only totaled three hits and were shutout through seven innings of action. Adrian lost game two to the Hornets, 3-0.
Peyton Russell had a team-high two hits as Bagelmann was the only other player to record a hit for Adrian. Bagelmann recorded two stolen bases as
Abbi Patton was in the circle for the Bulldogs as she allowed 10 hits and struck out one in the loss.
Adrian will look to see where they are placed in the conference as they plan to head to the conference tournament next weekend!
