ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College Athletic Director, Craig Rainey, announced the hiring of
Andrew Wimmer as the head coach of the Adrian College men's and women's rowing teams. Wimmer was a rower at Ohio State University from 1995-2000 and served as team captain for his senior season.
We are excited for the vast experience and connections in the rowing community that Coach Wimmer has gained," expressed Rainey. "We feel that Coach Wimmer sets up our Rowing Program to take the next steps. Our facilities are outstanding and we hope he will utilize his knowledge, connections, and our facilities to build our program into a nationally recognized program."
Wimmer started coaching rowing in 2004 for Dublin Crew which is now known as Central Ohio Rowing. After serving as the Boys Co-Head Coach until 2005, he went to coach boys and girls for Upper Arlington Crew. With Upper Arlington, head served as the Assistant Girls Coach from 2005-08 before being named Head Coach and serving until 2011. After some time away from rowing, Wimmer returned to Upper Arlington to serve as the Head Coach of the boys team from 2015-18.
In 2018, Wimmer returned to Ohio State where he became the Director of Rowing and was the Head Coach of the men's rowing team. He coached at Ohio State from 2018-20 and led the team to impressive performances at the Head of the Hooch, the American Collegiate Rowing Association Championships, and the Head of the Charles. Wimmer later returned to Upper Arlington where he has served as the Director of Rowing since 2021.
"I am excited to work with the athletes at Adrian College to build upon past successes of the program and create another championship team", said Wimmer.
Wimmer will begin his coaching responsibilities at Adrian as he begins to prepare for the 2024-25 season while also recruiting for the future of the program.
