ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team opened its season this week with a home-and-home series against Trine University. The Bulldogs tallied sixteen goals over two games, coming out with 8-0 and 8-3 wins on Thursday and Friday. The team also sent its 2024 ACHA National Championship Banner to the rafters before Friday night's contest at the Arrington Ice Arena.

Adrian came out hot out of the gate in their opening weekend, demonstrating their high-powered offense once again. The Bulldogs traveled to Angola on Thursday night to kick-off the series, where Alex Schaumburger, Dylan Gajewski, Justin Jamer x2, Cash Regan x2, and Andreas Fleutot x2 provided the scoring in the shutout victory. Sophomore goaltender, Peyton Trzaska, earned the goose egg in goal for the Bulldogs on the road, while a total of four powerplay goals helped aid the triumph. Ethan McLaughlin collected four assists on the night. Fleutot registered two assists to go along with his two goals.

At the Arrington Ice Arena on Friday, the Bulldogs continued their strong offensive prowess, tallying another eight goals on their special night. Schaumburger, Nathaniel Mott, Matthew DiCesare. Chad Noetzel, Hunter Allen, Gajewski, Jamer, and Caleb Minns all found the back of the Trine goal in the series clincher. Adrian Senior tender, Dylan Knighton, made sixteen saves in the home win. Gajewski and Allen finished the night with three points apiece.

The MD1 Bulldogs are set to host nationally-ranked Illinois State University next weekend at the Arrington Ice Arena for a two-game battle. Puck drops at 7:00 PM on Friday night and 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon. Friday's contest at the AIA will be Lenawee United and Adrian Youth Hockey Association Night.
