BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Adrian College club baseball team competed in the Battle Creek Blast over the weekend consisting of four games. Adrian went 2-1 in pool play with wins over Western Michigan and Bowling Green to advance to bracket play with the No. 4 seed. The Bulldogs fell in the semifinal round of the bracket to finish the weekend.
Adrian opened the weekend with a 7-5 loss to Grand Valley State University. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead early in the game, Grand Valley fought back and held on to win. Adrian totaled six hits in the game with five coming from
Ty Perin.
Jack Florig started on the mound allowing six runs on ten hits in four innings pitched.
Adrian went on to grab a 7-3 win over Western Michigan with the help of a four-run second inning. Perin,
Brock Hudik,
Isaac Jurmu, and
Jaren Sumners all collected two hits. Sumners added three RBIs on the afternoon.
Michael Hale started on the mound where he threw four innings allowing one run on six hits with two strikeouts.
The Bulldogs earned another win on Saturday after defeating Bowling Green State University. After allowing four runs in the top of the second to trail early, the Bulldogs bounced back and won the game 6-4.
Connor Davies had a multi-hit game for the Bulldogs with two.
Andrew Walker pinch hit late in the game and came up with a big 2-RBI single.
Tyler Hall drove in two runs on a double.
Mathyis Neuenkirchen started on the mound throwing three innings and striking out seven.
Adrian advanced to Sunday where they faced the No. 1 seed and a rematch against Grand Valley State. Things didn't go as planned for the Bulldogs and they lost 5-0 after Grand Valley scored all five runs in the first inning. The Bulldogs struggled offensively as they totaled just six hits and left 12 runners on base. Florig threw 5.2 innings for Adrian allowing no runs on two hits.
The Bulldogs move to 4-4 on the season and pick up action on the road on October 5-6 with a three-game series hosted by Michigan State University. Saturday's game will begin at 12:00 PM followed by a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Sunday.
