ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCBA Division 1 baseball team hosted Ohio Valley Community College on Wednesday night at Nicolay Field. The bats came alive for the Bulldogs as they defeated Ohio Valley 17-6 in seven innings.
Adrian struck first on an RBI single from
Isaac Jurmu to lead 1-0. After a run scored on a wild pitch in the second to extend the lead, Jurmu ripped a 2-RBI double fouled by an RBI double from
Jesse Leyva to lead 5-0. Adrian added four more in the third inning on a 2-RBI single from
Carson Meister, a run scoring on a balk, and a sacrifice fly from Jurmu.
Ohio Valley got on the board in the fourth inning with a 5-run inning which was answered by eight runs for the Bulldogs in the bottom half of the inning. Adrian scored five runs on passed balls while the additional runs were driven in by an RBI double from
Brock Hudik, a sacrifice fly from Leyva, and an RBI single from
Colton Hicks to make it 17-5. Ohio Valley added one run in the fifth, but was shutout the rest of the way.
Jurmu led the Bulldogs with three RBIs on the night while also collecting a pair of hits. Hudik also added a pair of hits for the Bulldogs while scoring four times.
Connor Reneau started for Adrian tossing 3.1 innings allowing five runs, two earned, on four hits with four strikeouts.
Justin Bland pitched in relief tossed 3.2 innings allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts.
The Bulldogs move to 4-3 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday, October 11 when they host Bowling Green State University for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
