ADRIAN, Mich. -- Adrian College's season came to a heartbreaking close on Saturday night in Angola, Indiana, as the Bulldogs fell to Trine University in a penalty shootout, 5-4, after a 1-1 draw through regulation and double overtime in the MIAA Tournament.
Annamarie Fosmoen gave Adrian the lead in the 54th minute, slotting home her 10th goal of the season to put the Bulldogs ahead. Trine responded late in the second half, as they tied the game at 1-1 in the 70th minute.
Neither side could find a breakthrough in extra time despite several dangerous chances. Goalie Katelyn Stanton was stellar for Adrian, recording five saves in the 110 minutes of play.
In the penalty shootout, Bri Aikens, Teagan Bergeron, Melanie Perhne, and Fosmoen all converted their attempts for the Bulldogs, but Trine made all five of their shots to advance, ending Adrian's postseason run.
It was a resilient performance from the Bulldogs, who battled for 110 minutes and came just inches away from moving on.
