EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The Adrian College women's wrestling team hit the road to compete in a highly competitive East Stroudsburg Duals Sunday, facing teams they don't see often, finishing the day 1-5 in 10th place out of 12 teams. The Bulldogs opened up against East Stroudsburg, falling 13-34, following up falling against Western New England 9-40, then falling to Brock University 19-29, Felician University 17-29, and Lock Haven 10-37. The Bulldogs did not let down going 0-5 on the day, they bounced back in their final match against Liberty University with a 23-20 victory. 

Both Freshman Zionah Gardner (145) and Grad student Carleigh Czerneski (117) both won all of their match ups today.

"This was a great opportunity to get the majority of our freshman some mat time battling in a team environment. This was a great test for our very young line up. We wrestled some tough matches, our wins were really good wins, and our losses were really decent losses!" coming from Associate Head Coach Autumn Rux.

Despite the record today, Rux is still very proud of her squad competing with low numbers due to injury and sickness. "We knew when traveling to PA that we were going to have a couple voided weight classes due to some early season injuries and sickness. Starting off our battle vs these other teams with 3 voids in our line up can be a challenge to win each dual overall. Our ladies did really well having to adjust  in some cases having to bump up to a bigger weight class. Having athletes bump up in weight is already challenging asking them to wrestle at a higher weight class on top of the array of All-Americans mixed into these teams we matched up against. Our team had to compete without some key weight classes that could have made the differences in our team victories, and I'm proud of them for stepping up to the challenge. Knowing that going in, we wrestled really well through the 7 weight classes we could cover, but came up short going 1-5 on the day."
