ADRIAN, Mich. — The Adrian College women's ACHA Division 2 hockey team put up a strong fight but came up short in a pair of home-and-home games against Michigan State over the weekend. The Bulldogs fell 3–1 on Saturday and 3–2 in a close Sunday matchup.
In Saturday's contest, Adrian struck first when junior Lulu Weglarz found the back of the net midway through the opening period, assisted by junior Gabby Brumme. Michigan State responded with three unanswered goals — one in the second and two in the third, one being an empty netter — to seal the win. Junior goaltender Emily Tracht kept the Bulldogs in the game with 37 saves on 39 shots.
Sunday's game was a back-and-forth battle that came down to the wire. Adrian again opened the scoring early, with freshman Katherine Graham capitalizing just over two minutes in off a feed from junior Mia Nadeau. After the Spartans evened things up in the second, sophomore Akeeliah Graham tied the game 2–2 in the third period on a setup from sophomore Morgan McKeraghan. However, a late Michigan State power-play goal proved to be the difference. Sophomore Goaltender Chalee Ridenour made 32 saves in the effort for Adrian.
The WD2 Bulldogs (0–11) will look to regroup and build for next weekend as they host the University of Illinois for a Saturday and Sunday series on family weekend. Puck drop set for 7:00 PM on Saturday and 1:00 PM on Sunday.
