ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team opened the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs on Friday afternoon with a dominant 7-0 win over Trine University in the Quarterfinals. Adrian entered the matchup as the No. 2 seed, while Trine was seeded No. 7. For the third consecutive game, the Bulldogs shut out the Thunder, securing a strong victory in Game 1 of the series.
The Bulldogs jumped to a 3-0 lead after the first period, thanks to goals from Tia Lascelle, Courtney Ben, and Zoe Lohrei. The second period was scoreless for both teams, but Adrian broke the deadlock in the third when Callie Wollschlager found the back of the net. Karmen Anderson, Nicole Pietrucha, and Carly Carpenter added three more goals in the final frame to seal the 7-0 victory.
Lascelle, Ben, Maya Roy, and Jocelin Hudanish each recorded two assists on the afternoon, while Annie Gilbert was solid in goal, making five saves. Adrian outshot the Thunder, 78-5.
With a win tomorrow, the Bulldogs will advance to the NCHA Slaats Cup Semifinals, which are set to take place next weekend at Arrington Ice Arena. Game 2 of the quarterfinal series between Adrian and Trine will drop the puck tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM.
