ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team earned a home-opening win over Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon at Docking Stadium, closing out the Tigers in a 15-10 win.
Michael Jonas made history in Saturday's game, becoming the new program leader in career goals scored.
The Bulldogs continued their stretch of strong play, taking down a tough Wittenberg team in their first home contest of the season.
Jonas provided four goals in the win, but only needed three to overtake T.J. Cook ('12)'s previous record of 132 for the program record in career tallies as a Bulldogs. Jonas now sits atop the category with 134 career markers.
The Bulldogs played an impressive game in their second win of the season, holding off the Tigers in a gutty effort all across the field. Scoring singles for the Bulldogs on Saturday was
Trace Tidswell,
Derek Hassel,
Austin Selvage,
Cameron Reed, and
Noah Carithers.
Riley Edwards,
Brandon Hoerauf, and
Alec Winegar each provided two goals in the win, while Jonas rounded out the offense with four. Jonas added three helpers and Hassel collected five helpers in the win. Both led the way with seven shots apiece as well.
On defense, Reed and
Mark Picano led their team in caused turnovers with two each. Standing tall in the cage was
Sam Spangler, who made 19 saves and grabbed nine ground balls in his second win of the season.
The Bulldogs move to 2-2 on the season and will head on a spring break trip to Kentucky next week for two games.
Michael Jonas stopped by for a post-game chat to discuss the win and provided his thoughts and gave credit to his teammates for helping him break the program goal record.
