ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College women's NCAA hockey team grabbed a 7-0 victory over Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday at the Arrington Ice Arena, advancing to the NCHA Slaats Cup Championship game. In Saturday's win, defenseman,
Maya Roy, set the new program record for single season assists.
Roy collected two assists in the home win, putting her in sole possession of first place for the women's NCAA hockey program's single season assists record. Roy's 34th and 35th assists of the year lifted her over Sarah Shureb and Kristin Lewicki's previous shared record of 34 set back in the 2016-17 campaign.
Adrian dominated the Falcons at the AIA on Saturday, exploding for seven tallies and shutting the door defensively to eliminate CUW from playoff contention.
Riley Johnson provided a pair of tallies, along with
Aileena Dopheide,
Jocelin Hudanish,
Courtney Ben,
Hunter Reardon, and
Zoe Lohrei, who each notted one. As mentioned, Roy garnered two helpers, while
Karmen Anderson did the same,
Annie Gilbert continued her valuable play in this one, stopping all 21 shots she faced for her sixth shutout win of the year.
The Adrian College women's NCAA hockey team will await its opponent and location for the Slaats Cup Championship contest. The Bulldogs will face the winner of today's contest between Lake Forest and St. Norbert, with the championship game being held at the highest remaining seed.
Riley Johnson joined us post-game, providing her thoughts on the win and the team's game plan for next weekend.
