UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio. -- The Adrian College men's rugby team opened its spring semester schedule with a championship victory at the John Carroll University 7's Tournament on Saturday in Ohio.
The Bulldogs took to the field for five games on the day, going 1-2 in pool play, before capturing wins in the semifinals and championship matches.
Adrian opened the day with a match against John Carroll, in which they lost, 21-17. The Bulldogs then took the pitch for a contest with Kent State, defeating the Flashes, 24-10.
The Bulldogs closed out pool play with a 26-14 loss to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, setting up another match with Kent State, where they captured a 33-7 semifinal win to advance to the final match.
After an opening loss to host JCU, the Bulldogs sought out revenge in the championship as they faced off against John Carroll for the title. A dominant effort, with two tries from
Jerred Welt and
Jayden Ramsey, and one each from
Max Miller and
Mychal Andrews led to a Bulldog 40-12 victory and impressive start to the spring campaign.
The Adrian College men's rugby squad will return to action next weekend at the Wheeling University 7's Tournament in West Virginia.
