Michael Jonas Scores Eight in Men's Lacrosse Road Loss to Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team closed non-conference play on Saturday with a road loss to Illinois Wesleyan, 23-18.

The Bulldogs close non-conference play with a 6-5 overall record. Though the Bulldogs made the latter half of Saturday's contest close, the Spartans were steady in their defense of the lead, and held off the Bulldog offense, which was highlighted by Michael Jonas' eight goals and seventeen shot attempts (12 SOG), for the win over Adrian.

Jonas added three assists to his eight tallies on Saturday, and his twelve shots on goal made him the all-time program leader in that category with 271 over his career, passing Chris French ('22)'s previous record of 262.

Austin Selvage scored once and added four helpers in the game for Adrian. Brandon Hoerauf, Alec Winegar, and Trace Tidswell each potted two goals as well, while Riley Edwards, Owen Stuckey, and Jake Coakley recorded singles to wrap up the offense. Adrian's Derek Hassel collected three assists in the losing effort.

Between the pipes for the Bulldogs was Sam Spangler, who saw all sixty minutes, stopping 22 shots on 45 shots on net. Cameron Reed led the Bulldogs in ground balls, grabbing eight off the turf.

The Adrian College men's lacrosse squad will now begin to climb their MIAA conference play mountain, beginning on Wednesday, April 2 at 7:00 PM inside Docking Stadium versus Calvin University. The Bulldogs will be hosting Autism Awareness Night for their match-up against the Knights next week.
