ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team hosted Franklin College for their 2025 home opener on Tuesday afternoon where the Bulldogs dropped the first game 5-1 and the second game 7-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1:
The first game of the doubleheader resumed in the third inning after a previous rain out.
Peyton Russell evened the score at one in the top of the fourth with a solo home run. However, Franklin responded with a four-run surge in the fifth, ultimately securing a 5-1 victory.
Avery Clark took the loss, pitching 5.1 innings while recording six strikeouts, allowing seven hits, and surrendering five earned runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2:
Franklin set the tone early in the second game, erupting for six runs in the second inning to put Adrian in a 6-0 hole.
Peyton Russell responded just as she did in the first game, launching her second home run of the day to chip away at the deficit. Franklin tacked on another run in the fourth before
Alaina Craig delivered an RBI single to make it 7-2.
Adrian made a final push in the bottom of the seventh when
Taylor Gerhardt crushed a two-run homer, but the rally fell short as the Bulldogs dropped the second game of the doubleheader 7-4.
Abbi Patton moves to 5-3 on the year as she went 3.1 innings of work with eight hits, one earned run.
Adrian is back in action on Saturday, April 5 where they will head to Calvin University to open up MIAA play at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
