Softball Rolls Past Alma College in Saturday Double-Header Due to Stellar Pitching and Timely Hitting

ALMA, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team made the trip to Alma, Michigan where they faced Alma College for MIAA double-header as Adrian would go on to sweep Alma 3-0 and 10-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1

It was a pitcher's duel early as the Bulldogs and Scots remained locked in a scoreless battle through five innings. But in the sixth, Hailey DeChalk broke the deadlock with a clutch double to center field, driving in Abbie Hoff for the game's first run.

Adrian kept the momentum rolling in the seventh. Meghan Lupu delivered with a sharp single to right, bringing home Genna Marasco to make it 2-0. Moments later, Maggie Leveille added the finishing touch with a sacrifice fly, allowing Taylor Gerhardt to cross the plate for the Bulldogs' third run.

In the circle, Macee Schang was lights-out. She tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering seven hits, striking out four, and keeping the Scots off the scoreboard to seal the 3-0 victory for Adrian.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2

The Bulldogs came out firing in game two, exploding for seven runs in a dominant first inning. Maggie Leveille, Meghan Lupu, and Taylor Gerhardt all crossed the plate following a throwing error by the catcher to jump-start the scoring. Karsyn Malinich drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Makenzi Johnson, and Genna Marasco followed suit with another RBI walk, plating Hailey DeChalk for the fifth run.

Gerhardt reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Ashley Myers to score, and Lupu capped off the inning with a sharp single to drive in Marasco, making it a commanding 7-0 lead after one.

Adrian's offense didn't slow down in the second, as DeChalk ripped a double to center to bring home Peyton Russell. The Bulldogs added two more in the third thanks to back-to-back doubles from Leveille and Abbie Hoff, pushing the final tally to 10 runs.

In the circle, Abbi Patton was rock-solid, tossing four scoreless innings, allowing just four hits, and striking out four to earn the win and seal a convincing 10-0 victory for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday, April 13 where they will travel to Angola, Indiana to face Trine University. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
