Men's Lacrosse Close Regular Season with First Win over Albion Since 2014; Secure Bye to MIAA Tournament Semifinal

ALBION, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team closed its 2025 regular season in historic fashion on Wednesday night with a 10-8 road win over Albion College, securing the No. 2 seed for the upcoming MIAA Conference Tournament. Wednesday's win was the first for Adrian College Men's Lacrosse over Albion College since May 3, 2014.

Adrian got off to a hot start in Wednesday's contest, taking a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. Nico Palazzolo, Derek Hassel, Tyler Ristau, Alec Winegar (UP), and Cameron Reed found the net early in the contest for Adrian, but it didn't take long for the Britons to answer back.

Albion carried play in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Bulldogs 6-2 to make it a 7-7 draw with one quarter remaining. Hassel and Reed added their second goals of the night in the second and third frames.

With the game all square, it made for a thrilling finish in what was a battle for the No. 2 seed in the conference. With Adrian in hopes of achieving their first 5-1 conference record since 2015, it would've taken a lot from the Britons to steal that away from the Bulldogs.

Adrian surrendered the first goal of the final period, giving Albion the 8-7 lead, but the determination of a resilient Bulldog squad surfaced yet again as the road team fired off three straight tallies in just over a minute of play to take a 10-8 lead, in which they held for the remainder of the game. Brandon Hoerauf, Austin Selvage, and Palazzolo buried for the Bulldogs in the final frame to seal the deal and end the program's eleven-year losing skid against Albion.

Adrian's Noah Carithers and Reed led the way with two caused turnovers apiece, while Palazzolo and Sam Spangler each grabbed five ground balls in the win. Spangler was stellar in goal once again, earning his ninth win of the year after making 13 saves.

Reed's two caused turnovers in the game broke his own record for single season CT's, as he now sits at 51 on the year. Reed now holds the top-four spots in the Adrian College men's lacrosse record book for caused turnovers in a single season, with 51, 50, 40 and 37.

The Bulldogs close out their regular season agenda with an impressive 5-1 conference record, defeating the likes of Calvin, Trine, Kalamazoo, Alma, and Albion.

The Adrian College men's lacrosse squad will enter next week's conference tournament as the second seed behind Hope College, and will host a semifinal contest at Docking Stadium on April 29, bypassing the quarterfinal round. Official tournament and game information will be released later this week.
