OLIVET, Mich. - The Adrian College softball team took a short trip to The University of Olivet for a double-header on Wednesday afternoon for a MIAA showdown. The Bulldogs went on to sweep the comets with a 12-0 win in the first game and 10-1 in the second game.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1:
The Bulldogs came out firing in Game one, setting the tone early with a four-run first inning. Taylor Gerhardt crossed the plate on a passed ball to open the scoring, followed by Abbie Hoff's RBI single to left that brought home Meghan Lupu. Maggie Leveille then delivered a clutch two-run single up the middle, scoring Hoff and Hailey DeChalk to give Adrian a commanding 4-0 lead.
The offensive momentum continued into the second inning, as Peyton Russell lined a shot to center field to drive in Hoff and stretch the lead to six. The fourth inning saw another explosion from the Bulldogs, who tacked on four more runs. Lupu got things started with an RBI single, and DeChalk followed with a laser double to left that plated Hoff again. Leveille stayed hot with a double of her own to score DeChalk, and Hanna Walker joined the scoring frenzy with a single to left that brought in pinch runner Emily Ventrone.
Russell would put the finishing touches on Adrian's dominant performance in the fifth, launching a two-run homer to left-center to make it 12-0.
Abbie Hoff went 3-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored, DeChalk also went 3-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored. Peyton Russell also had a 3-for-4 day with three RBIs and one run scored.
In the circle, Macee Schang earned her 10th win of the season in dominant fashion. She tossed three shutout innings, scattering just three hits while striking out four to secure the shutout victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2:
Olivet struck first with a run in the top of the first inning, but Adrian responded with authority. The Bulldogs put up five runs in the bottom half to take command early.
Taylor Gerhardt jump started the offense by stealing third and scoring on a throwing error.
Abbie Hoff followed with a no-doubt two-run homer to left, flipping the lead in Adrian's favor.
Maggie Leveille kept the bats hot with a run-scoring double down the left field line, and
Karsyn Malinich added a sacrifice fly to bring in Leveille, giving the Bulldogs a 5-1 edge after one.
Adrian continued to pour it on in the second. Meghan Lupu drove in Genna Marasco with a single to right, and Hailey DeChalk roped a two-run double to left, plating Lupu and Gerhardt to stretch the lead to 8-1.
DeChalk would later cap the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, once again bringing home Gerhardt to seal a dominant 10-1 win.
At the plate, Lupu led the way with a perfect 2-for-2 performance, adding an RBI and scoring twice. Hoff delivered a big swing with her two-run blast, finishing 1-for-2 with three RBIs. DeChalk also drove in three, going 1-for-2 with a double and a sac fly.
In the circle, Abbi Patton picked up her 10th win of the season with a strong outing. She tossed three innings, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out two.
Adrian is back in action on Saturday, May 2 where they will honor the 2025 Senior Class as they take on Kalamazoo College at the AC Softball Field. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
