ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday afternoon with a home doubleheader against Kalamazoo College. The Bulldogs were looking to lock in the No. 2 seed for the MIAA Tournament which was accomplished with a 12-4 win and an 8-0 win over the Hornets. After both games, Adrian College honored its softball senior Class of 2025.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- The Bulldogs came out scoring right away as Peyton Russell launched a three-run homer in the bottom of the first. This home run marked her 10th of the season which set the new program record for most home runs in a single season.
- In the second inning, Adrian exploded for seven more runs sparked by a solo homer from Karsyn Malinich. Taylor Gerhardt later singled in a run before Meghan Lupu, Abbie Hoff, and Maggie Leveille all singled in runs to lead 10-0.
- In the third inning, Hoff made it 11-0 after another RBI single.
- Kalamazoo showed some life in the fourth with a 3-run homer followed by another run in the fifth to make it 11-4.
- Hoff ended the game in the fifth inning on a single to right field to enforce the mercy rule and win 12-4.
- Macee Schang earned her 11th win of the season after tossing five innings allowing four runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- Russell started the scoring in the second inning with her second home run of the day to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the fourth inning, Leveille smashed a three-run home run to lead 4-0.
- Russell added another RBI in the sixth on an RBI double to extend the lead.
- In the seventh inning, Hailey DeChalk drove in two runs on a single up the middle before Makenzi Johnson drew a bases loaded walk to lead 8-0.
- Abbi Patton earned her 11th win of the season on the rubber for Adrian pitching a complete game shutout where she allowed seven hits and struck out one.
