ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team put up a strong fight against No. 1 seed UW-Whitewater on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA Baseball Regionals. The No. 4 seed Bulldogs went toe-to-toe with the Warhawks—ranked No. 3 nationally—but came up just short in a late-inning comeback, falling 8-6.

Adrian struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI double by Ryan Davis.

Whitewater answered in the bottom of the fifth, plating three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

The Bulldogs responded in the sixth with a solo home run from Jake Burns, followed by an RBI single from Rolando Jimenez to tie the game at 3-3.

The Warhawks regained control in the bottom of the seventh, pushing across four runs to go up 7-4, and added another insurance run in the eighth.

Down by four in the ninth, Adrian mounted a rally with RBIs from Cam Oliver, David Kedrow, and Easton Rogers to cut the deficit to 8-6. With the tying run in scoring position, the Bulldogs came up just short in their comeback bid.

Adrian outhit the nation's top-ranked offensive team, 12-9. Oliver led the way with three hits, while Jimenez, Linken Hayward, and Davis each collected two.

Jaxon Clark started on the mound for the Bulldogs, pitching six innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits.

Adrian will look to stay alive in the consolation bracket for the second straight weekend. The Bulldogs face No. 3 seed Ohio Northern on Saturday, May 17, with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 AM.
