ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team opened the 2025 MIAA Baseball Tournament on Wednesday afternoon as the No. 1 seed, hosting the No. 4 seed Kalamazoo College Hornets. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, their tournament run took an early detour as they dropped a narrow 5-4 decision, falling into the consolation bracket.

Kalamazoo struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run single.

Adrian answered quickly in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game 2-2 on a two-run home run by Linken Hayward.

The Bulldogs grabbed a 3-2 lead in the fifth when Easton Rogers delivered an RBI single, scoring David Kedrow.

The Hornets responded in the sixth, tying the game on an RBI groundout before taking a 4-3 lead on a bunt single.

Kalamazoo added an insurance run in the seventh, capitalizing on an error to make it 5-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Adrian loaded the bases and pushed one run across on a walk, trimming the deficit to 5-4, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Adrian collected 11 hits on the afternoon, with three apiece from Rogers and Hayward.
Starting pitcher Jaxon Clark went six innings, allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out four.

The Bulldogs move to the consolation bracket of the MIAA Tournament and will face the loser of Calvin University vs. Alma College at 3:00 PM tomorrow at Nicolay Field in an elimination game. The winner of that contest will play again at 6:00 PM for a spot in the MIAA Tournament Championship.
