MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Bulldogs kicked off their season this past weekend at the Midland County Fairgrounds in Midland, Michigan, competing in the first two shows of the year hosted by the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals. With solid performances from both the athletes and the team's four horses, the Bulldogs proved themselves strong contenders in IHSA Area 64.
As the day progressed, the team's energy and focus grew, culminating in a major win—bringing home the afternoon title of Overall High Point Team.
Standout performances came from senior co-captain Corynn Pratto and sophomore Baylie Villani. Pratto led the way in the morning show, earning the High Point Rider title, and followed it up with the Reserve High Point Rider honor in the afternoon. Villani also made her mark by qualifying for Regionals in March 2026 during the morning competition.
Additional strong rides were delivered by senior co-captain Christopher Warwick, junior Emma Leonard, and sophomore Denae Covey, rounding out a well-balanced and competitive showing for the Bulldogs.
This weekend also marked a successful debut for Chloe, a promising young horse new to the team. She handled the excitement and atmosphere like a seasoned competitor, and the team is optimistic about her role in the season ahead. Willy, the team's veteran horse and IHSA Nationals participant in May, turned in steady, reliable performances throughout the day. His consistency leaves open the possibility of a return trip to the National Semi-Finals and IHSA Nationals in North Carolina later this season.
The Bulldogs will continue their season at home, hosting the third and fourth competitions on Saturday, November 1, at The Held Equestrian Center in Albion, Michigan. Competition begins at 9:00 a.m.
