MILTON, Mass. -- The Adrian College men's volleyball team competed in a pair of non-conference matches Saturday at Miller Gymnasium, facing Curry College in the morning before taking on Rivier University in the afternoon.
Match One: Curry 3, Adrian 1
Adrian opened the day against Curry and showed resilience throughout the four-set contest, falling by set scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21. The Bulldogs responded after dropping the opening set by controlling set two, hitting .345 as a team to even the match.
Sam Landers led the Adrian offense with 18 kills, while Dominic Rees added nine kills and seven digs. Carles Baza contributed six kills on a .294 hitting percentage, and Andrew Graczyk directed the offense with 30 assists. Defensively, Marco Gomez anchored the back row with 14 digs as Adrian recorded 41 total digs in the match.
Despite staying close throughout sets three and four, Curry used efficient attacking and strong net play to close out the match.
Match Two: Rivier 3, Adrian 1
In the afternoon matchup, Adrian faced Rivier University and dropped a four-set decision, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19. The Bulldogs bounced back from a tough opening set with a strong performance in set two, forcing errors and capitalizing at the service line to level the match.
Landers once again paced Adrian offensively with 10 kills, while Rees chipped in eight kills and Carson Bell added three kills while hitting .500. Adrian recorded six total blocks in the match, led by William Morris and Landers, as the Bulldogs looked to slow Rivier's attack. Rivier responded after the intermission to ultimately secure the win.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Friday, on the road once again to North Park University, match will begin at 8:00 PM.
