Women’s Soccer Suffers Heartbreaking Senior Night Loss to Hope

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team turned in a promising performance against one of the MIAA's strongest opponents on Saturday evening, but a late goal handed the Bulldogs a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Hope College on Senior Night at Docking Stadium.

Before the match, Adrian recognized its senior class and celebrated the group's contributions to the women's soccer program.

Riley Miller returned in goal for the Bulldogs and delivered a strong performance. Miller made three saves during the opening half and kept the match scoreless until Hope broke through in the 33rd minute.

Adrian returned from halftime with renewed energy and began building momentum. The Bulldogs' improved second-half play was rewarded in the 65th minute when Delaney Batur finished a scoring opportunity created by Ashley Hughes to tie the match at 1-1.

The goal energized Adrian as the Bulldogs continued applying pressure. Nora Kinsey placed a shot on goal minutes later, and Isla Brown nearly gave Adrian the lead in the 75th minute when her attempt struck the crossbar.

Hope scored the deciding goal in the 84th minute, bringing Adrian's impressive second-half effort to a heartbreaking conclusion.

Miller finished with 10 saves in her return to the net, including seven during the second half. Batur recorded Adrian's goal, while Hughes collected the assist. Brown and Madison Verhaeghe each finished with two shots.

Despite the result, Adrian's second-half performance offered a glimpse of what the team can accomplish when playing with confidence, energy and urgency. The Bulldogs competed for all 90 minutes against a Hope team that entered the match unbeaten in conference play, providing an encouraging foundation for the remainder of the MIAA schedule.

Adrian moves to 3-8-2 overall and 0-4 in conference play. The Bulldogs travel to Kalamazoo College on Wednesday, October 14, for a 5 p.m. match.
