ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's volleyball team competed against Trine University in an important MIAA matchup Wednesday night. The Thunder rolled through the Bulldogs, sweeping Adrian 3-0.
Adrian came into today looking to re-enter the win column after dropping a match last Saturday. Trine had other plans as they took advantage early in the first set. The Thunder controlled momentum for most of the set, and back-to-back kills gave them an eight-point lead, 18-10. Adrian struggled to regain momentum and dropped the first set 25-14.
The Bulldogs answered to start the second half. Freshman Morgan Wood made an impact with three early kills, helping Adrian gain a 6-3 advantage. Trine found their rhythm and put a stop to Adrian's momentum. The Thunder went on a run of eight straight points that highlighted a 10-1 overall run. Wood added her fourth and fifth kill of the set to bring Adrian to within two points at 21-19. Four more points for the Thunder put the finishing touches on another set victory, 25-20.
The third set did not start in Adrian's favor. Five of Trine's first seven points came on Bulldog errors. Despite this, Adrian fought back, and another kill by Wood sandwiched between two Lili Sipila service aces gave the Bulldogs a 13-12 lead. Trine answered once again with a 10-4 run, giving the Thunder a 23-16 advantage. Two kills courtesy of Apryl Kruse gave Adrian some late life, but Trine ultimately secured the third-set win and match sweep.
