AURORA, Ill. – The Adrian College men's basketball team tipped off the first game of the 2026-27 campaign, and first game of the Jamison Webster era, against Aurora University Friday night.
Aurora got the scoring started in the first half with a layup and took a six-point lead with a four-point play two minutes into the game. Adrian battled back, taking their first lead of the day on a three-pointer from Gavin Saunders. The Bulldogs built a 12-point lead with nine minutes to go in the half, courtesy of a Nate Houston layup. However, a 27-6 run in favor of Aurora helped the Spartans go into halftime with a nine-point lead.
The Spartans picked up right where they left off to start the second half. Less than three minutes into the half, Aurora had built an 11-point advantage. A pair of Noah Adams three-point attempts found the bottom of the basket, bringing the Bulldogs within three of the Spartans' lead. By then, Aurora was in the bonus and deposited nine of their next 15 points from the charity stripe. The Spartans went to the line 10 total times in the game, compared to Adrian's ten attempts. Despite the Bulldogs' best efforts, Aurora held on to win 90-82.
James Wright and Carson Lutz led the team in scoring with 14 points each. Wright added five rebounds and a block to his stat line as well.
