GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's volleyball team put together a strong Friday showing at their first day playing in the Calvin Quad, earning a pair of victories over Rockford and Franklin.
Adrian opened the day with a four-set win over Rockford University, taking the match 25-15, 22-25, 25-13, 25-20. The Bulldogs responded well after dropping the second set, hitting .700 in the third stanza with 14 kills and no errors to regain control of the match.
Dominic Rees led the way with 13 kills and a .370 hitting percentage, while Sam Landers added 11 kills and two block solos. Carson Bell was efficient offensively, recording eight kills on a .538 clip to go along with three service aces and four total blocks. William Morris chipped in six kills and hit an impressive .714. Andrew Graczyk directed the offense with 33 assists as Adrian finished the match hitting .304 as a team. Defensively, the Bulldogs totaled 10 blocks and 35 digs to secure the victory.
In the afternoon contest, Adrian completed the sweep of the day with a straight-set win over Franklin College, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18.
The Bulldogs hit .326 in the match, including a .355 mark in the pivotal second set to fend off a late Franklin push. Landers once again paced the offense with 13 kills and a .375 hitting percentage. Rees followed with 10 kills, while Morris added eight and Bell turned in a flawless performance with seven kills on seven swings for a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage. Graczyk dished out 36 assists in the three-set victory, helping Adrian tally 44 kills. The Bulldogs also added six total blocks and 30 digs in the defensive effort.
With the pair of wins today, Adrian looks to go undefeated in the quad matches tomorrow as they face St. Norbert at 12:30 PM.Â
