ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College WD2 hockey team split its weekend series with Central Michigan University, dropping Saturday's contest 2-6 on the road, however earning the senior day 3-2 victory at home Sunday afternoon.
In Saturday's contest, Adrian struck twice in the opening period but could not keep pace with the Chippewas' offensive surge, falling 6-2. The Chippawas opened the scoring midway through the first period, but sophomore Shelby Goodman responded at 9:12 to tie the game at 1-1 off a feed from junior Ella Zebley. Sophomore Gabrielle Paff later gave Adrian a 2-1 lead at 12:19, finishing assists from Goodman and sophomore Morgan Mckeraghan. The momentum shifted in the second period as Central Michigan scored three unanswered goals, including a power-play tally early in the frame, to take control. The Chippewas added two more goals in the third period to seal the 6-2 final. Central Michigan held a 46-26 edge in shots. Sophomore goaltender Chalee Ridenour made 41 saves in the loss.
In Saturday's matchup, the Bulldogs battled back-and-forth with the Chippewas in a tightly contested matchup. Junior Aubrey Morrison opened the scoring for Adrian at the 10:22 mark of the first period to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage. Central Michigan responded later in the frame to even the score at 1-1 heading into the first intermission. Central Michigan grabbed a 2-1 lead just 2:25 into the second period, but Adrian answered midway through the frame. Junior Gabrielle Brumme capitalized on the power play at 12:01, finishing assists from Goodman and senior Devon Cavaliere to tie the game at 2-2. The Bulldogs regained the lead in the third period when Morrison netted her second goal of the night at 11:47, putting Adrian ahead 3-2. Junior goaltender Emily Tracht turned aside 43 shots to secure the victory. Central Michigan outshot Adrian 45-28.
