ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team is headed back to the NCHA Harris Cup Semifinals after sweeping Lake Forest College in the quarterfinal round. Following a 6-2 victory on Friday afternoon, the Bulldogs carried that momentum into Saturday, dominating the Foresters in a 10-1 win.
Adrian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period behind goals from Jacob Suede, Ian Amsbaugh, and Devyn Orpana. Lake Forest scored its lone goal of the contest on a power play in the second period, but the Bulldogs quickly answered. Ryan Vellucci netted a shorthanded goal, followed by tallies from Frank Tafelski and Orpana's second of the game to make it 6-1 heading into the third.
Orpana completed his hat trick early in the final period to extend the lead to 7-1. Tafelski and Vellucci each added their second goals of the night, while David Clarke also found the back of the net to cap the scoring.
Vellucci and Orpana each finished with four points, while Suede totaled three. Alec Lovisek and Bradley Somers contributed two assists apiece. In goal, Ryan Piros made 18 saves to secure the win.
The No. 1-seeded Bulldogs will face No. 4-seeded Aurora University on Saturday, February 28, at Arrington Ice Arena. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m.
