Softball Tripped Up in Opening Day Doubleheader

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Adrian College NCAA softball team started the season on Sunday with a doubleheader to kick off their trip down to Florida. The Bulldogs started the day with a game against Bethany Lutheran falling 8-4 before facing off against Eastern University and falling 15-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • Bethany Lutheran started the game with a run in the bottom of the first on a solo home run. The Vikings went on to add three in the second and four in the third to jump out to an 8-0 lead.
  • Adrian scored its first run of the game in the fifth inning after a sacrifice fly from Karsyn Malinich.
  • In the sixth inning, Addison Inskeep drove in a run on an RBI ground out before Emmi Liptow doubled in a run to make it 8-3.
  • In the seventh inning, Megan Kowalyk singled in a run to make it 8-4, but the late game comeback was completed resulting in a season opening loss.
  • Kowalyk and Liptow each finished the game with two hits.
  • Avery Clark went the distance on the rubber allowing eight runs on nine hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
  • The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Kowalyk.
  • Eastern took control of the game after taking a 2-1 lead in the third inning before scoring 13 runs in the fourth to lead 15-2.
  • Adrian started scoring in the fifth on RBIs singles from Malinich, Kowalyk, and Maddisyn Miller. Alaina Craig knocked in a run on a double while Emily Ventrone drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
  • The Bulldogs dropped game two, 15-6.
  • Kowalyn and Craig led Adrian with a pair of hits on the afternoon. Clark picked up the loss on the mound after tossing three innings allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 10:00 AM when they face Wentworth before taking on Wartburg at 2:30 PM.
