ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – The Adrian College softball team wrapped up its trip to Kentucky on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs split the final day after a 13-10 loss to DePauw before bouncing back to slaughter Hanover 17-9. The Bulldogs move to 9-9 on the season after the six-game weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- Adrian took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after a leadoff home run by Taylor Gerhardt.
- DePauw made it 2-1, but Peyton Russell launched a home to tie the game.
- DePauw scored a run in the third, but Adrian made it 5-3 in the top of the fourth with the second home run of the day from Russell and the second homer from Gerhardt. Abbie Hoff added an RBI after doubling in the inning.
- The scored moved to 5-4 in favor of Adrian entering the sixth where Hoff and Russell singled in runs, and Meghan Kowalyk smacked a home run to pull ahead 8-4.
- DePauw responded with a nine-run sixth inning to reclaim the lead which was answered by a 2-run homer from Karsyn Malinich, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
- Malinich finished the game with four hits for Adrian while Gerhardt and Russell finished with three.
- Adrian launched six home runs in the game which sets a new program record for most home runs in a single game.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- Adrian took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a home run from Malinich and a single from Hanna Walker.
- After Hanover scored in the second, Malinich drove in a run on a single before Hoff drove in two.
- Hanover brought the score to 8-6 after scoring seven runs in the top of the third innings.
- The Bulldogs responded to lead 9-8 after a Hanover error, a single from Malinich, and a single from Hoff.
- Hanover added another run in the fourth, but the Bulldogs responded with eight runs in the fifth to enforce the mercy rul. Hoff was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded which was followed by a grand slam from Kowalyk, a 2-RBI double from Maddisyn Miller, and a single from Gerhardt.
- Gerhardt, Malinich, Hoff, Russell, and Wolfe all finished the game with three hits.

The Bulldogs will take a week off before traveling to Franklin College for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 21 starting at 2:00 PM.
