Two Comebacks Fall Short for Softball in Day Four of Southern Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Adrian College softball team played another doubleheader in Florida on Thursday. The Bulldogs started the day against Illinois College falling 10-8 in the battle before another comeback came up short against Marian University dropping the contest 8-6.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • The Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Karsyn Malinich and a bases loaded walk to Hanna Walker.
  • In the second inning, Emmi Liptow drove in a run on a ground out before Taylor Gerhardt hit a 2-RBI triple to lead 5-0.
  • Illinois College tied the game 5-5 in the fourth with the help of a 2-RBI triple and a 3-run homer.
  • The team's traded runs in the fifth inning with Adrian scoring on a wild pitch to make it 6-6.
  • Illinois College rallied in the sixth scoring four runs to pull ahead 10-6 before the Bulldogs scored on an error and a fielder's choice to make it 10-8, but couldn't complete the comeback.
  • Gerhardt and Malinich each finished the day 3-for-5 while Abbie Hoff went 2-for-4.
  • Avery Clark went the distance on the mound allowing ten runs on eight hits with six walks and five strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
  • The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly from Meghan Kowalyk and an RBI single from Abbie Hoff.
  • Walker singled in a run in the third inning to lead 3-0, but Marian battled back in the bottom half to claim a 4-3 lead.
  • Marian extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth to 8-3.
  • Kowalyk added an RBI in the sixth followed by an RBI double from Maddisyn Miller and an RBI single from Ava Wolfe in the seventh to make it 8-6, but the comeback fell short handing the Bulldogs the loss.
  • Hoff finished the game 3-for-4 while Gerhardt and Kowalyk each finished the game with two hits.
  • Kira Stacey suffered the loss allowing four earned runs on ten hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs will finish the trip down south tomorrow when they will face Concordia Wisconsin at 10:00 AM followed by game two against Carnegie Mellon at 12:30 PM.
