ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA softball team hosted Kalamazoo College on Tuesday afternoon for an MIAA doubleheader, splitting the two-game series. The Bulldogs claimed game one, 9-1, before dropping game two, 11-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- Adrian opened the scoring in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead after a Kalamazoo error.
- The Bulldogs added three runs in the third as Addison Inskeep and Peyton Russell delivered RBI singles, followed by a sacrifice fly from Meghan Kowalyk to make it 4-0.
- Kalamazoo scored once in the fourth, but Karsyn Malinich answered with a two-run home run.
- Adrian sealed the win in the fifth with RBI singles from Taylor Gerhardt and Hanna Walker, while Malinich also scored on another Kalamazoo error.
- The Bulldogs totaled 12 hits, with Gerhardt, Walker, Ava Wolfe, and Emmalee Shankel each recording two.
- Avery Clark earned her eighth win of the season, tossing a five-inning complete game while allowing one run on five hits and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- Kalamazoo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double.
- In the third, Malinich drove in a run with a double, but Kalamazoo answered to extend its lead to 5-1.
- Wolfe added an RBI single in the fourth, though Kalamazoo responded with two more runs.
- Inskeep launched a three-run home run in the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-5.
- Kalamazoo scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull away for the 11-5 victory.
- Adrian finished with 13 hits, led by three from Kowalyk. Malinich, Hoff, Inskeep, and Wolfe each added two hits.
- Lillian Utrup started in the circle, pitching three innings and allowing five runs on seven hits. Hoff worked three innings in relief, surrendering six runs on six hits.
