Softball Splits Conference Doubleheader with Kalamazoo

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA softball team hosted Kalamazoo College on Tuesday afternoon for an MIAA doubleheader, splitting the two-game series. The Bulldogs claimed game one, 9-1, before dropping game two, 11-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1

  • Adrian opened the scoring in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead after a Kalamazoo error.
  • The Bulldogs added three runs in the third as Addison Inskeep and Peyton Russell delivered RBI singles, followed by a sacrifice fly from Meghan Kowalyk to make it 4-0.
  • Kalamazoo scored once in the fourth, but Karsyn Malinich answered with a two-run home run.
  • Adrian sealed the win in the fifth with RBI singles from Taylor Gerhardt and Hanna Walker, while Malinich also scored on another Kalamazoo error.
  • The Bulldogs totaled 12 hits, with Gerhardt, Walker, Ava Wolfe, and Emmalee Shankel each recording two.
  • Avery Clark earned her eighth win of the season, tossing a five-inning complete game while allowing one run on five hits and striking out four.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2

  • Kalamazoo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double.
  • In the third, Malinich drove in a run with a double, but Kalamazoo answered to extend its lead to 5-1.
  • Wolfe added an RBI single in the fourth, though Kalamazoo responded with two more runs.
  • Inskeep launched a three-run home run in the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-5.
  • Kalamazoo scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull away for the 11-5 victory.
  • Adrian finished with 13 hits, led by three from Kowalyk. Malinich, Hoff, Inskeep, and Wolfe each added two hits.
  • Lillian Utrup started in the circle, pitching three innings and allowing five runs on seven hits. Hoff worked three innings in relief, surrendering six runs on six hits.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, April 23, when they host Calvin University for an MIAA doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
