ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team returned to action Thursday afternoon, hosting Calvin University in an MIAA doubleheader. The Bulldogs held an early lead in game one before a late rally by Calvin resulted in a 6-1 loss. Adrian continued to struggle offensively in game two, while the Knights used a big inning to complete the sweep with a 7-0 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- Adrian took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double from Abbie Hoff, scoring Ava Wolfe.
- Calvin tied the game with an RBI double in the seventh inning before adding a pair of home runs to pull away for the 6-1 win.
- The Bulldogs recorded four hits in the game, with Karsyn Malinich, Hoff, Addison Inskeep, and Hanna Walker each tallying one.
- Avery Clark went the distance in the circle, tossing seven innings while allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- Calvin opened the scoring with a run in the third inning.
- The Knights broke the game open in the fourth, scoring six runs to take a 7-0 lead.
- Adrian continued to face challenges at the plate against one of the nation's top pitching staffs.
- The Bulldogs finished with four hits, led by a two-hit performance from Emmalee Shankel.
- Lillian Utrup started in the circle, allowing one earned run on five hits with one strikeout over three innings. Hoff pitched three innings in relief, giving up three earned runs on three hits while striking out two.
