ANGOLA, Ind. – The Adrian College NCAA softball team traveled to No. 2 Trine University on Friday afternoon for an MIAA conference doubleheader. The Bulldogs dropped both contests, 15-5 and 28-4, to fall to 11-13 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Adrian jumped out to an early lead in game one behind a two-run home run from Hanna Walker. Trine responded to take a 3-2 advantage before Peyton Russell evened the score with an RBI single. After the Thunder regained the lead in the third inning, the Bulldogs tied the game once again at 5-5 following a Trine error and an RBI single from Addison Inskeep. However, Trine pulled away with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the 15-5 win.
Taylor Gerhardt and Karsyn Malinich each recorded two hits to lead Adrian offensively, while Walker finished with three RBIs. Avery Clark made the start in the circle, tossing five innings with four strikeouts. Abbie Hoff added one strikeout in relief.
In game two, the Bulldogs struggled to keep pace but got on the board early with a solo home run from Gerhardt in the first inning. Adrian added another run in the third on an RBI single by Hoff and scored twice in the fourth behind an RBI single from Ashley Myers and an RBI double from Gerhardt.
Gerhardt led the Bulldogs offensively, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Adrian will look to bounce back on Tuesday, April 7, when it hosts Alma College for an MIAA doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
