DETROIT, Mich. – The Adrian College men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over NCAA Division I opponent Detroit Mercy in a scrimmage at Titan Field on Monday night. The contest does not count toward Adrian's season record, but it served as an official regular-season game for Detroit Mercy and dropped the Titans to 1-1 on the year.
Adrian opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Doudou Sambe found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage. The Adrian defense held Detroit Mercy scoreless throughout the remainder of the opening half to carry the lead into the break.
The Titans tied the match in the 83rd minute, but Adrian responded just over two minutes later. Carter Kerbawy set up Nick Miller for the go-ahead goal in the 85th minute, putting the Bulldogs back in front, 2-1.
Detroit Mercy created one final scoring opportunity in the 87th minute, but Adrian goalkeeper Eli Sizemore made the save to preserve the victory. Sizemore finished with three saves while facing 15 shots. Adrian recorded four shots and converted both of its attempts on goal.
Before Monday's match, Adrian held an 0-9-1 record in documented meetings with NCAA Division I varsity opponents. The Bulldogs' lone previous draw came against Eastern Michigan in 1985. Monday's result marked Adrian's first documented victory over a Division I men's soccer program, although it will remain classified as a scrimmage in the Bulldogs' records.
Adrian will officially begin the 2026 season on Tuesday, Sept. 1 when the Bulldogs travel to Hope College for a 4 p.m. match.
