TIFFIN, Ohio – The Adrian College women's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 3-1 road victory over Heidelberg University at Hoernemann Stadium on Tuesday evening. Three different Bulldogs scored as Adrian moved to 1-0 on the season.
Adrian struck first in the 12th minute when Samantha Guciardo found the back of the net off an assist from Delaney Batur. The Bulldogs continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, generating six shots and five corner kicks.
Heidelberg responded with the tying goal in the 22nd minute. Adrian created multiple opportunities to regain the lead before halftime, including shots on goal from Batur and Ciara Pape, but the teams entered the break tied, 1-1.
The Bulldogs quickly regained control after halftime. Ashley Hughes scored the go-ahead goal in the 53rd minute after receiving assists from Madison Verhaeghe and Pape, giving Adrian a 2-1 advantage.
Bri Aikens added an insurance goal eight minutes later by converting a penalty kick in the 61st minute. Adrian continued to generate scoring opportunities throughout the second half, with Batur, Chasity Rivera, and Lylah Willinger each placing shots on goal.
Adrian finished with 12 shots and placed eight attempts on goal. The Bulldogs recorded six shots in each half and put five of their second-half attempts on frame. Adrian also held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Goalkeeper Riley Miller made five saves to earn the victory, including three during the second half. The Adrian defense held Heidelberg scoreless over the final 68 minutes to secure the season-opening win.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday, Sept. 4 when they host Wilmington College in their home opener at Docking Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
