ADA, Ohio – The women's volleyball team looked to bounce back this weekend at the ONU Invitational. Friday afternoon opened up play against the tournament host, Ohio Northern.
The Polar Bears put up a powerful attack, scoring 40 kills in the match en route to a sweep.
Adrian struggled to find their rhythm early, tallying only five kills amid nine errors in the first set. Ohio Northern controlled the game early, earning a 25-15 victory after leading for the entire set.
The Bulldogs came out fighting in set two, leading 14-10 after an attack error by Ohio Northern. Three straight attack errors by the Polar Bears gave the Bulldogs a 20-18 lead late. Seven straight points by Ohio Northern helped erase the deficit and earn them a 25-20 victory in set two.
Looking to keep the match alive, Adrian battled in a back-and-forth third set. Neither team led by more than four points and were tied at nine different points. Adrian tallied 15 kills and played a clean game, but was ultimately outlasted by Ohio Northern as they completed the sweep.
Peyton Oertel's team-leading six blocks helped Adrian set a new season-high with ten total blocks in the match. Kora Nicolanti tallied 15 digs, giving her 85 on the season.
