ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's soccer team earned its second consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Manchester University, 3-0, at Docking Stadium. The Bulldogs improved to 2-2 on the season with the shutout victory.
Adrian wasted little time taking the lead. After earning a corner kick in the fourth minute, Alex Russell set up Jack Pelton for the opening goal to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs continued to generate chances throughout the first half, outshooting Manchester 8-5 and earning six corner kicks. Eli Sizemore made two saves during the period to send Adrian into halftime with the lead.
Pelton doubled the advantage in the 59th minute with his second goal of the match. Adrian continued to apply pressure as Pelton put another shot on goal less than a minute later before Aidan Beiter struck the post in the 78th minute.
Travis Zeleji capped the scoring in the 83rd minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Kyle Peterson to extend Adrian's lead to 3-0.
Pelton led the Bulldogs with five shots, four shots on goal and two goals. Nikolai Zacharko added three shots, while Beiter and Nick Miller recorded two apiece. Adrian finished with a 17-11 advantage in shots, a 10-4 edge in shots on goal and a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. Sizemore played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves to record the clean sheet. The Bulldogs' defense limited Manchester to four shots on target.
Adrian will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when it travels to The College of Wooster for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
