Harry Bailey '09 begins his 11th season with the Adrian College football program and will once again serve as offensive coordinator. 

COACHING HIGHLIGHTS AT ADRIAN

  • Bailey's offensive unit was young in 2019, but still ranked 35th nationally with 224 first downs, 62nd in passing offense with a 245.6 average and 66th in total offense with 407.7 yards per game.
  • In 2018, the Bulldogs offense was 34th in team passing efficiency (149.93) and 52nd in total offense (421.7 yards per game) in the nation.
  • The 2017 squad had NCAA Division III offensive ranks of 24th in total offense (461.4 ypg, MIAA-2nd), 40th in red-zone efficiency (.841, MIAA-1st), 41st in scoring (35.7 ppg, MIAA-3rd) and 42nd in first downs (229, MIAA-2nd).  
  • Also has coached the Bulldogs running backs since 2016 and worked with the quarterbacks in 2015. 
  • With Bailey's play-calling, the offense--known historically as a strong unit on the ground-- excelled via the air in 2016, setting school records for passing yards (2,632), completions (185) and passing first downs (109).
  • The 2015 Adrian squad rushed for a school-record 2,541 yards to break the previous record of 2,311, set in 2008. The Bulldogs also had 3,932 total yards, which nearly broke another single-season record (4,033 in 2005). 
  • On Oct. 10 of that season, Adrian set a single-game school record with 549 yards rushing in a 50-14 win against Alma.
  • The 2014 Bulldogs had an effective offensive lead by its exceptional ground attack which ranked third in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (208.1 ypg). Senior running back Dae'Von Robinson racked up 648 yards good enough for sixth in the MIAA. But the team was led in rushing by Emmanuel Stewart, who dashed for 1002 yards (3rd in the MIAA) and 11 touchdowns.
  • Complementing the run game that season was an exciting passing attack led by senior Nathan Hartline, who racked up MIAA-leading stats of 971 receiving yards, 88.3 receiving yards per game, and 18 yards per catch.
  • In 2013, Bailey was co-defensive coordinator along with Christon Calley. The Bulldogs had another great season on defense. They led the league in scoring defense (11.1 ppg), pass defense (178.4 ypg), rushing defense (104.0 ypg) and red-zone defense (13-of-25).
  • The '13 Bulldogs also ranked third in the conference in opponents' third-down conversion rate (31.1).
  • Bailey coached a talented group of linebackers in 2011. The team ranked sixth nationally and first in the MIAA in tackles for loss per game (8.8). In total, the Adrian defense allowed single-digit points to four teams that season.
  • Bailey has also been in charge of the Adrian junior varsity team during his tenure. He guided the 2010 program to an 8-2 record.

MIAA INDIVIDUAL ACCOLADES UNDER COACH BAILEY

  • Jerron McGaw was among the nation's top receivers in 2017 with school records of 1,233 yards and 10 touchdowns en route to D3football.com All-North Third Team and All-MIAA First Team accolades; his 70 receptions are second in an AC single-season.
  • McGaw ended his AC career in 2018 with school records of 27 TD receptions, 5.8 receptions per game (180) and was second all-time with 2,974 yards receiving.
  • Two student-athletes--running back Emmanuel Stewart and lineman Eric McDonel--are multiple All-MIAA picks, as Stewart became the school's all-time rushing and scoring leader in 2017.
  • Sophomore wide receivers Darius Philon and McGaw had career years in 2016, combining for 116 catches, 1712 yards and 12 touchdowns en route to second-team All-MIAA honors for both. 
  • Coached the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year Deontae Bridgeman and All-MIAA First Team performer Ellis Ewing in 2013.
  • During the 2012 season, Bailey helped guide Bridgeman to first-team All-MIAA honors and Hunter Juntunen to the All-MIAA Second Team. 
  • Darren Walter was named first-team All-MIAA as a kingpin to a defense that ranked 25th nationally and second in the MIAA in sacks (2.90 per game) in 2011.
  • Adrian saw four offensive players make All-MIAA first and second teams including, first teamers junior senior tight end Joe Cleary and junior wide receiver Henry Wilson and second teamers sophomore quarterback Jack Wurzer, freshman lineman Matt Pillow.

AS A BULLDOG STUDENT-ATHLETE

  • Four-year letterman and two-year starter on one of Division III’s best defenses during his playing days.
  • Senior captain and 2008 All-MIAA First Team linebacker.
  • In 2007, Bailey started all 10 games and recorded 31 tackles and ranked sixth in the MIAA with 10 tackles for loss.
  • In 2008, he again started all 10 games and ranked first in the MIAA with 11.5 tackles for loss. He also made 78 tackles including 46 solo stops.

PERSONAL LIFE

  • A native of nearby Hudson 
  • Son of Greg and Kelly Bailey
  • Earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with an emphasis in social studies and a minor in history. A 2009 Adrian College graduate.
