Mathew Thompson '18 returned to Adrian College in 2022 as the Assistant NCAA Men's Hockey Coach. He is a 2018 graduate of Adrian College where he played four years with the Bulldogs. The 2024-25 season will mark his third behind the bench. Prior to the 2024-25 season, Thompson was promoted to Associate Head Coach.

At Adrian, Thompson played all four seasons under Adam Krug including Krug's first year as head coach in the 2014-15 season. He finished his career with 105 games played, 61 goals, 67 assists, and 128 total points. He was captain of the Bulldogs during his junior and senior season.

During his collegiate career, Thompson was a four-time conference champion and a two-time NCAA Tournament semifinalist. He was named to the D3hockey.com Team of the Week three times, the NCHA All-Freshman Team, Harris Cup All-Tournament Team three times, and was a two-time NCHA All-Conference selection.

After college, he went on to play in the ECHL for the Indy Fuel before going to the AHL to play for the Rockford Ice Hogs in 2019-20. He then went back to the Indy Fuel where he served as captain before playing for the Coventry Blaze in the EIHL.
