David Kwan will begin his fourteenth season as the head coach of the Adrian College women’s NCAA volleyball team in 2025.
In 2022, the Bulldogs wrapped up their campaign with a 13-10 overall record, including a 5-3 mark in conference play. Kwan led Adrian to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) tournament for the sixth time in eight seasons in 2022. In 2023, Kwan led the Adrian College women's NCAA volleyball team to their first MIAA Tournament win since 2008 and first appearance in the MIAA Tournament semi-final for the first time since the 2007 season.Â
In all, Kwan has led the Bulldogs to five conference tournament semifinal appearances. He has also produced numerous All-MIAA honorees.
Prior to signing on with Adrian, Kwan invested nearly a decade as the head coach of the Defiance women’s volleyball program in which he earned the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Coach of the Year honor in 2003. During that season, the Yellow Jackets turned in a 26-5 overall record.
In total, he accumulated 150 victories and coached almost two dozen All-HCAC athletes while with Defiance.
Before his work with the Yellow Jackets, Kwan assisted the Humber College men’s volleyball team to a top-four finish in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Championships and an undefeated regular-season during the 2002-03 season.
He additionally served as an assistant coach at York University, mentoring four All-Canadian athletes. Furthermore, Kwan spent several years with the Premier Volleyball Club in Toledo, Ohio where he helped national travel teams qualify for the Junior Olympics National Tournament.
Kwan received his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Health Sciences from York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1999 before earning a master’s degree in Kinesiology in Coaching from York in 2001.
