ADRIAN, Mich. - The Bulldogs played a sluggish first half of basketball on Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the John Dawson Tournament. Luckily, the second half proved to be a reversal of fortune as Adrian College improved to 2-0 overall with a 72-60 win over Cardinal Stritch. AC received contributions from all 10 players who stepped onto the floor and freshman Dwight VanHoesen scored all of his 14 points after the break including three big triples. VanHoesen went 3-of-5 from the arc and 3-of-4 at the line in 23 minutes.
Junior guard Desmond Young also struggled in the first half with five points on 1-of-6 shooting. He turned it up in the second half scoring 12 points for a game total of 17 points. He shot 5-of-12 in the second half and also dished out a game-high nine assists earning the tournament MVP award in honor of Mickey Phelps. Young averaged 18.5 points, six assists and four boards in two games.
Senior forward Ian Weber did not score as much in game two of the season but did manage a game-high 13 boards to go with four points and three steals in 29 minutes. Senior guard Ryan Gallus led Adrian with 19 points and connected on 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Gallus grabbed five offensive boards and recorded four steals in 38 minutes.
Adrian shot 34.3 percent for the contest but were 15-of-19 at the charity stripe. Cardinal Stritch shot 45.8 percent but were just 2-of-11 behind the arc in the second half. They also hurt themselves at the line going 4-of-12 as a team. Trey Triplett led the Wolves with 20 points in 30 minutes.
